ok...finally, here's this week's submission. 
TOPIC: Designers, this time, you will design an outfit based on a famous building. This is about inspiration and translation of inspiration into an acutal design.
DESCRIPTION:
I was assigned the Eiffel Tower, which was good because I knew what it was (unlike a couple of the buildings assigned
), but also bad because...meh. it's the eiffel tower. woo.
l'anyhoodles, upon researching the tower, i decided to go a different direction than i'm sure most people went. I didn't want to make my dress look like the building. i hate being literal, and that's just about as literal as you can get. instead, I wanted to focus on details of the tower, and integrate them into my design...making the design look more "inspired by" and less "constructed as..." the eiffel tower. I found an amazing close up on the detail on wikipedia, and included the picture on my sketch.
onto the design...I originally wanted to do something casual, since i feel like all i've been doing is designing dresses, but then i thought....Paris is the city or romance...you HAVE to do a romantic dress. I decided to do a floor length gown, that i feel looks very romantic and classic. the bodice utilizes the ironwork design found on the corner of the tower right above the entry arch. the waistband also uses the decorative ironwork. the only part of the building i put in WAS an entry arch on the bottom. The train in the back is 3-tiered, and is trimmed using the latticework found up the entire building.
The dress itself consists of a basic strapless dress, with a sheer overlay on the skirt, with a train in the back, and a decorative bodice. The colors are greyish-blue and gunmetal. I read that the eiffel tower is brown right now (they repaint it every so often and brown is the current color) and i didn't want to do a brown dress (hello, malan's pageant dress on ProjRun)....so i stuck to "metal" colors. I hope you like it. I love this dress.
